Keeping families informed without adding more phone calls
Updated October 22, 2026 · For independent funeral homes
Families want to know what’s happening, but they also don’t want to bother you. Some call several times a day; others don’t call at all and worry. Relatives in other states hear things second-hand. A simple way for the family to see progress on their own helps all of them.
Share progress, not every detail
Families need to know that things are moving: the permit is in, the obituary is published, the service time is set. They don’t need your internal notes. Share the milestones that answer “is everything on track?”
Use one private link per family
A private page for each case, shared only with the family, lets relatives check in from anywhere. Out-of-town family members can see the service date without a chain of forwarded texts. Keep these pages out of search engines; they are for the family only.
Put your contact details on it
The page should always show who to call. A grieving family member shouldn’t have to search for the funeral home’s number.
Still make the important calls
A page doesn’t replace a phone call for decisions or difficult news. Use it to cut the “just checking in” calls so you have more time for the conversations that matter.
