Coordinating funeral home staff across overlapping cases
Updated October 22, 2026 · For independent funeral homes
Busy weeks bring overlapping cases, and overlapping cases bring missed steps: an unordered program, a permit nobody filed, a family who wasn’t called back. The fix is less about effort and more about everyone working from the same list.
One list of open cases
Everyone should be able to see every open case, its service date and how far along it is. Look at the nearest service dates first so the closest deadlines get attention.
Tick off steps as they happen
A checklist item ticked when it’s done (not at the end of the day) means the list is always true. When the phone rings, anyone can answer with confidence.
Daily five-minute review
- Look at cases with a service in the next three days.
- Check what’s not done on each.
- Agree who is doing each open item today.
Give everyone their own login
Shared passwords make it impossible to know who did what, and you can’t remove access when someone leaves. Individual logins for directors and staff fix both.
